DMC-EZ (DICOM Media Creators) FAQ's
Most full featured product on the market today. The DMC-EZ software is integrated with a family of Disc Publishing Systems addressing price points and needs for every customer segment. Product and software are very robust. Leader in Storage and Distribution Solutions, Global pioneer of medical burners past 10 years and the only Registered Class 1 full line of Medical media, MediScribe. How does Thermal compare to InkJet Printing? top Acquisition cost of InkJet system is significantly less than Thermal printing device (i.e. TEAC/Rimage versus Primera). Thermal systems are positioned for higher volume sites as they have greater capacity and are designed for higher output. Thermal CDs are Scratchproof, Waterproof to avoid label deterioration. Thermal Surface Print provides higher resolution as compared to InkJet Label. Thermal Print technology does not require dry time. Discs are ready for distribution immediately. Thermal Print technology provides very predictable media costs, Color: 500 Prints per ribbon. InkJet technology yield varies per label design and cartridge: Black Print estimate per Cartridge 350 discs, Color Print estimate per Cartridge 200 discs. Color cost per print for Ink Jet will average .19c versus .33c for thermal. Raw cost of ink jet media is approximately .10c more expensive than thermal media How many CDs can the DMC-EZ systems produce in an hour? top DMC-EZ 3000 (TEAC) Full CD with Full Print: 42 Discs per hour Some companies claim their inkjet systems can produce 400 CDs per day? Why is SST more conservative in their recommendations? Some vendors boast that their dual drive inkjet systems can generate 400 CDs per day. However, these systems cannot sustain this throughput without running into problems. Ink Jet systems and the Rimage Thermal Systems utilize consumer style CD/DVD recorders with an MTBF of 12K-13K cycles. High volume of this type will require the recorders to be replaced 1X per month. Significant down time will not be acceptable to end users. SST suggests usage for its products based on duty cycles which will yield MTBF for its systems between 6-12 months. How does TEAC compare to Rimage Hardware? top TEAC has designed a new Generation Disc Publishing System. Designed for Mission Critical Applications Technology adapted from Aerospace and Professional Recording Industry, New Robotic Arm and Picking Mechanism, New professional recording drives with 3X the MTBF of consumer recording drives incorporated by Rimage and Primera, Increased Durability and Enhanced Serviceability, High Resolution Edge to Edge Printing, Scratch-proof, Water-proof, No fading, Latest Generation Combined Dye-sublimation and Thermo-fusion Printing, New Ribbon Technology – VERSAMAX-Requires no special CD to utilize thermal printer, Only Manufacturer who Makes its Own Drives, Robotics and Printers How does the TEAC printing process differ from Rimage? top DiscSprinter uses a Thermal RE-Transfer printing process. Whereas the image is printed with 4 individual color panels onto a Retransfer Roll that then adheres the image to the disc. DiscSprinter does this in two separate modes based on the consumables. Dye-Sublimation printing and Thermal-Fusion printing. Dye-Sublimation is a process of thermal printing in which a Dye is transferred from the Color Roll to the Transfer roll as a solid to a gas to a solid. The Dye never becomes liquid, only a gas. Thus it is not applied like an ink-jet process in dots. The gas application allows the colors to blend better to produce a more photo realistic image. What is the resolution of the TEAC printer? top DiscSprinter has a 400dpi Print head. This produces the equivalent of 290Lpi, compared to the Everest II with only 173Lpi.... Can the DMC-EZ Systems create both CDs and DVDs? top The DMC-EZ 50, EZ 500 and EZ 3000 feature dual input bins. Blank CD goes in one bin and blank DVD into the other. This allows the user to manually choose or have the system automatically choose between CD and DVD. In addition, the software can select media type based on size of study. Can the DMC-EZ Anonymize patient studies? top The DMC-EZ can manually or automatically anonymize patient studies and reports on demand or during scheduled burns. The user can decide to utilize encryption at time of order creation or when setting up scheduled burn requests. Encryption passwords are simple to use and defined by the administrator. What type of Viewer is Burned on the CDs Created by the DMC-EZ? top The DMC-EZ includes the EZDICOM viewer on each CD created by our solutions. The EZDICOM viewer is a comprehensive DICOM viewer which employs key radiology tools as well as CINE capability. This EZDICOM viewer also integrates a report window in the viewer. The “look and feel” of the CD viewer is identical to the web viewer built into the DMC-EZ server and provides the user a common interface and experience. The other unique aspect of the DMC-EZ software is that it can burn multiple viewers on each CD it creates. For example: the OsiriX Macintosh viewer comes standard on SST’s product and can be recorded on each CD created along with the EZDICOM viewer. How does DICOM import work on the DMC-EZ? top The DMC-EZ comes with a separate import utility called the EZ DICOM Sender. This utility can be installed on any workstation in the facility for the purpose of DICOM import. The user simply inserts the CD in the local drive, the DICOM Sender software reads the DICOM information and automatically sends the study to a predefined DICOM destination on the network. There is no need to purchase a separate import application for this purpose. What is the study is too big to fit onto one CD? top DMC-EZ software will automatically span CDs based on volume size. The software will intelligently break the series at image level and roll onto a second or third CD. The label software will print volume number on the CD surface (i.e. CD 1 of 3, 2 of 3 and 3 of 3). The DMC-EZ software also gives the user the ability to put large studies on DVD. In fact, the software is smart enough to automatically choose CD or DVD depending on study size. Is it easy to create CDs with the DMC-EZ? top User has a number of ways to create CDs using our software. The software can be configured, using schedules, to automatically create CDs when studies are received complete. The schedules can key off of any DICOM tag to perform a set of predefined rules. (e.g. CD or DVD, Label Types, Date and Time of Recording, Reports or No Reports, etc….). CDs can be created manually with one click by any user logging into the system. Each user is given a password and specific rights. User needs only to log into the system, query the PACS for a specific study or studies and click retrieve burn. It is that simple. The software give the user the ability to create multi patient CDs or single patient multi study CDs manually or automatically. How easy is the DMC-EZ to service? top This is really a strength of our offering. The DMC-EZ software includes a back up utility as part of each installation. The back up utility provides a daily back up of all log files, schedules, labels, network configurations and settings to media or network path. If a piece of hardware is ever replaced, the service engineer or end user can simply restore the back up on the new device and the user is up and running immediately. The key with DMC-EZ is uptime. SST’s call center has trained technicians with
experience in burners who are skilled at on-line troubleshooting and repair.
They will make every effort to diagnose and solve problems encountered in the
field over the phone or on line. The DMC-EZ hardware support options are
numerous. SST provides on site repair for its systems. SST offers post warranty
contracts and non contract maintenance through GE or direct to the end user. SST
and GEHC will employ a call routing strategy which will give GE visibility and
status of all service issues. |
